My first sighting of this hard to capture warbler!
















Found in brushy, second-growth and open woods.

A summer resident in Illinois, winters in the southern states.
Length 4.75  Wingspan 7.5"  Weight .3oz
Song - Harsh buzzy beee-BZZZZZ
or a long, high buzz with stuttering notes tsi tsi tsi tsi zweeeee zt zt zt
Call - sharp, dry snik or chik  in flight dzit zzip

A flash of color caught my eye
This is an Eastern adult male
Length 7.75"  Wingspan 12"  Weight 1oz
Song - Similar to a Robin, three-syllable phrases
Call - pituk to piki-tukituk or kdddd-rrddi
Flight call- soft, wheezy veedrr or verree

Who sees me before I see them?
Then without a sound, flies away.

Off to find a perch away from prying eyes.

Year long resident all across the North American Continent

He wasn't on the farm this day
Eastern Adult Male
Length 7.5"  Wingspan 12"  Weight 1.5oz


Every guy needs a girl
but
she's being coy
Adult Eastern Female
Song - low gurgling notes followed by
thin, slurred whistles
Flight calls - tseee-teea or seeeeetiti


Then come the offspring
Seen June through September
Habitat for all: woods, edges, and open fields
